“OMG! Did you know you were tall!” ”Did you play basketball?” “How’s the weather up there?” Are there actually good answers to these kind of questions? YES! And ways to find clothes that fit!
Hi. I am Beki, I am 5′ 11″, and I have always been tall. Well, I wasn’t born tall, but about 6th grade, I took a growth spurt, and from that point I was always taller than everyone, with a very long inseam! And I need the extra length in sleeves, shirts, sweaters, etc. Any one else tall out there? Any “tall” tales to tell? Share it here. I am looking for a way to make this site FUN! What else would you like to see here? Let me know how you feel about being tall, any tall clothing sites you like, or just general ideas to make it more fun by leaving a comment below. Just click on the title of any post (including this one), scroll to the bottom, and type!

Just found out about this great store that carries clothing and shoes for tall women. Check it out: http://www.longlegs.ca.
What a wonderful site, found this as I was looking for clothes on line, very helpful. Wanted to comment on Kiana’s entry, hope you’re still looking at this site and maybe this will help you. I have always been tall, 6′, hit my max in high school and it was a small town so naturally I was the tallest girl. Add to this red hair and freckles, and I can tell you my self esteem was horrible. I was depressed all the time and used to cry myself to sleep because I was so different. Then one night I had a dream that God spoke to me and told me the only way he could make me smaller was to put me in a wheel chair. I am not a religous person, nor am I crazy. Do I believe God spoke to me? I don’t know, (I wish I was that special), but what I do know is that it helped me to accept the one thing I could not change and gave me some perspective on what is important. I am 47 now and on occasion I wish I wasn’t as tall as I am, mostly when I have to shop, and I would probably hate that still if I were short. What I can tell you is that had I known in my 20’s what power I had being tall and a red head, wow… not sure what I would have done but the options were there, just to naive to see them (probably a good thing). My point is, make the most of what you have, because whether you know it or not, you have it all! : )
I’m 5ft11 and have size 11 feet (I think that’s a size 13 in the USA?) .. what a mission my life is – just trying to get dressed in the morning!! (well, kind of .. you get my point! lol)
Stupid comments aside and people preconceptions about tall girls, the worst thing has to be clothes and shoe shopping.. Blogs like this one and the amazona blog help heaps telling us where to go and http://www.tallwomen.org is a great resoource for us to know where to shop… Shoes wise I tend to either try and ship from Zappos (difficult if you’re based in Europe) or some smaller stores here in in the UK like: http://www.amazonastyle.com
for jeans it has to be either custom made (not always a great fit!) or gap ..especially those you can let down the hem! lol
xxooxx
I want to find good pop music. Help me please.
Tall is All is a great new resource for those of us “tallies” looking to find clothing that actually fits…
They make it pretty easy to find your size…. just plug in what your looking for (what inseam you need, your waist, your shirt size… anything) and you’ll get a nice list of brands that would work for you
Check them out!
My friend and I have just compiled a database of tall-friendly clothing stores. Our listing covers pants, shirts, swimsuits, maternity clothes, PJs, and shoes. You can find out database at: http://marfan.org/teenspace/ . Look for the fashion link (it includes tips for women and men). It’s hard having a 37″ inseam, as you ladies all know! I especially had a hard time with my pregnancy, because many of the stores that carry my inseam in regular pants don’t do the same for maternity clothes (didn’t you all know tall women never get pregnant?!). So, hope this helps some of you!
Hi, nice posts there
thank’s for the interesting information
Jheri, that is all good to know. The next thing I want to know is how to get to a size 0! Ha. I was thinner when I was younger, but the older I get…well, I don’t want to talk about it! I bet you do have a time. Most places that sell clothes think anyone that is a size 0 is 5′0″ tall. (I am also glad that you are better at converting inches to centimeters than I am. I think that is about 152 cm.)
Beki,
I have found one website with 39″inseams. it is Long Elegant Legs and their pants/jeans seem to be under 100$. here is the link if you want to check it out, they look cute! lhhttp://www.tallwomensclothes.com/category/inseams
I can find pretty clothes, but I do use a tailor, which helps a huge amount with getting things just right. I live in Denmark, so the places I go will not be useful. I have tried makeyourownjeans, but the results were mixed. One pair was brilliant and other other was terrible. I am 190 cm, which is a little less than 6′3, and very thin. I think it is more difficult being thin than tall to get a good fit.
I am very proud of my height now that I’m in my 20s, but it was difficult as a teenager. But most teenage girls obsess about things that are wrong: short, tall, heavy, thin, complexion. Most of us grow out of that.
When someone gives me a comment like “OMG you are tall!” I try to be friendly or make a joke out of it. A friend who is even taller taught me this and she never is sharp with people. My favorite is when someone makes a remark and she gives them a puzzled look, then looks down to her feet and back at them and says “oh, I’m not tall – its the shoes” It works best when she is in flip flops:-)
Hey Jheri! Thanks for taking the time to stop by. I’ve come to realize that the clothing industry seems to think because we’re tall that we’re huge every where else too. When I was in my 20’s i was 6′ tall and I weighed about 110 lbs. All the tall shops around at that time thought because you’re tall then you must be big. Anything I found that was long enough just fell off me.
I don’t have a tailor but my Mom taught me to sew at a very young age. I can make my own clothes and yes I used to make my own jeans. But I just don’t want to anymore!! I want someone else to do it!!
I’m so happy to hear you’ve learned that it’s ok to be 6′3″ you! Unfortunately, some don’t learn till later in life. People can be so cruel with their comments. Of course I’ve heard all my life OMG you’re tall. One of my comebacks is Shhhhhhhhhh! Don’t tell anyone, it’ll be our secret!! I love the comeback your friend uses. If she doesn’t have a copyright on that, I’d love to use it!
Your comment about not being helpful here is so not true! This site is not just about trying to find clothing that fits. It’s about connecting with others that feel they’re not accepted in society because the world population thinks they are too tall. Well, who are they to judge on how tall someone shoud be? Did the ever once consider they might be too short? I personally think if people are truely happy with what God has given them in the way of physical traits then they don’t have to attack others to make themselves feel better about them selves.
Jheri, you take care and come back to visit us whenever you can! Keep that smile!!

I really appreciate knowing about “makeyourownjeans”. I have threatened to do that several times, and just haven’t yet. Did you order yours at the same time, or two different times?
My apartment mate tried makeyourownjeans about two years ago. She is not tall, but they did a nice job although it took a long time. That made me try them. The price is not bad even when you add shipping. I ordered one pair and put down special instructions In American sizes I have a 37″ barefoot inseam and wanted something a bit more for some heels. I also am very thin and am a size 0. They took about a month to arrive and it was hard finding information on the status of the order, so I just had to wait it out. The result was very good. Build and material quality were about what you see in midpriced jeans. I had a tailor do a bit of work on them, but that is true for any jeans I have, I was very happy.
The next pair came a year later. It was like they hadn’t really read the instructions! A different material was used and the fit was very poor. Getting in touch with them was very difficult and I sent emails back and forth for a long time. It was very frustrating. They never offered to exchange them or try again.
My apartment mate has ordered again with pretty good results, but I have not. I was very upset with the poor customer service. Their business idea is good, but they need to make good on their mistakes.
ps – I was rereading my reply!
The next pair was ordered a year later and took about a month. I did not mean to imply it takes them a year to ship:-)
Beki,
I got some pants from ebay that were new from LLBean. they were unhemmed and i had to hem them up about 8 inches. I don’t know how long they were originally, but they are the longest pants i’ve ever seen and i wear a 35″ inseam. if you want me to check for you i will, but maybe they would work for you! lh
Hey Linda!
If you had to hem them that much, they might work for me. I need a 40″ inseam. Wow, that would be great if I could find pants that long that I don’t have to make myself!! I would really appreciate you checking it out for me.
Talk to ya later!
Beki
Nice site, and comments! I’ve known (and dated) a lot of tall women over the years, and most are wonderfully friendly, smart and independent. (You don’t come across very many six-foot coquettes.) Be proud of your height — you’re worth looking up to in so many ways!
Hey Vincent! Thanks so much for the comment. Glad you like tall women. There are really a lot of us out there! I am very proud of my height. And yes, we are very smart and independant! Keep dating those tall women cause we rock!!!
Take care!!!!
Beki
My sister is 5′9″ and I am 5′10″. We used to seem so tall, but these days, (look at those college girl athletes!),I sometimes feel short, but it hasn’t always been that way. Still isn’t, mostly. Clothes ARE harder to buy, and it is just hard to feel “cute” when that little 5′1″ girl is always standing nearby. I have found a few pretty good places for SOME tall people to buy SOME good clothes, but everything doesn’t work for everyone, of course. Eddie Bauer is one such place. Sleeves and inseams run longer. I will keep in touch and see what else I can find! Thank you for hosting this website to give us a chance to talk to others about this.
Linda
Just paying a visit to your new website. I think this is a great idea.
I am 5′11″ and thin/athletic and in my late twenties. Being tall started to become a struggle when I was a teenager, because clothes never fit right mostly. Like Kiana, I was always told I should play sports or be a model and even tried to get into modeling without success. Kiana, everyone wants to be tall. Think about it…high heels make you taller…runway models are tall b/c clothes look better on them. Tall is beautiful! You are long, sleek, classy and sexy just like a fine sportscar. You can also carry more weight that others without looking fat. I used to slouch, but now I stand up tall and enjoy the attention.
hi my name is kiana i am almost six feet and i am 14.well anyways i just wanted to say that it gets irritating because everywhere i go or turn somebodys always asking me if i play volleyball, basketball or anything that includes my height anyways i just wanted to say that i think it is really irritating is that evrytime i get off the bus with me and my brother someones always askin me about my height thats why i dont like telling people my age plus i hte sports and i wish that i was shorter.short people always wish that they were tall but i would do anything do be short but ya thats all k bye…
kiana, i’m 50 and i’m 6′ tall. i have had a lifetime of people coming up to me with comments of like oh my god, did you know you’re tall, did you play basketball, blah, blah, blah? well duh! of course i know i’m tall and no i did not play basketball! now shut up. stupid and inconsiderate comments. i have learned to accept that people are jealous of the fact that we are statuesque and unique. they want to be like us. i want you to try and accept the fact that you are tall, beautiful and you are going to have people always commenting about your height. it’s a positive thing. our height makes us stand out above the crowd. use this to your advantage. it can open doors for you that wouldn’t open if you were 5″2″. don’t wish you were shorter, stand up straight and tall and show the world who you are!! you are kiana, you are beautiful and you are wonderful!!! go out an show the world what you’re about!! i hope you check back to see my comment and i would love to hear from you!
